About Us

Matthew J. Landfried, MD is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon who joined the practice as a partner in 1990. He received his MD from Temple University School of Medicine and completed his residency at Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children and Hamot Medical Center both in Erie, PA. He is a member of the AMA, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, NYS Medical Society and WNY Orthopaedic Society. Dr. Landfried is on the medical staff at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia, NY where he is Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery and Chairman of the Department of Surgery.

Dr. Landfried is a general orthopaedist with subspeciality certification in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine. He has worked with athletes of all ages, skill levels and sports. Dr. Landfried was on medical staff of the Philadelphia Phillies Baseball Club from 1994 – 2006 and works with the Batavia Muckdogs. He provides medical coverage for the Batavia High School teams, Notre Dame High School teams and GCC teams. Dr. Landfried is also a coach for the Batavia High School Lacrosse team.

Dr. Landfried is assisted by two Physician Assistants, Brian D. Stendts, RPA and Frederick L. (Chip) Wagner, RPA-C.

Brian received his PA degree from SUNY at Stony Brook in 1986. Much of his work experience has been in hospital emergency departments. He began working with Dr. Landfried in 2008.

Chip received his PA degree from Gannon University in 1991. He has been working with Dr. Landfried since 1992.

Richard K. Hoy, MD is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon who joined the practice as a partner in 1993. He received his MD from Temple University School of Medicine and completed his residency at Hamot Medical Center in Erie, PA. He is a member of the AMA, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, NYS Medical Society and WNY Orthopaedic Society. Dr. Hoy is on the medical staff at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia, NY.

Dr. Hoy is a general orthopaedist with a special interest in sports medicine. He is very active in assisting local athletes in the Genesee Region both as a doctor and a coach. He provides medical coverage for the Batavia High School teams, GCC teams as well as AAU Basketball teams. Dr. Hoy is also an assistant coach for the Batavia High School Boys Basketball team and coaches local youth AAU Basketball teams.

Dr. Hoy is assisted by Gregory Branche, RPA-C. Greg received his PA degree from D’Youville College in 1997 and has been with the practice since graduation.

Joseph V. Otten, MD is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon who joined the practice as a partner in 1995. He received his MD from St. Louis University School of Medicine and completed his residency at Mt. Carmel Mercy Hospital in Detroit, MI. He is a member of the AMA, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, NYS Medical Society and WNY Orthopaedic Society. Dr. Otten is on the medical staff at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia, NY.

Dr. Otten is assisted by Laurie M. Kotowski, RPA-C. Laurie received her BS/MS Health Science and PA degree from Daemen College in 2004 and has been with the practice since graduation.
